Projects
Documentation Web Site
Build a well-structured web site to document what you are learning this week. Your web site will include links or embeds for any resources you create on Camtasia's Screencast site or any other places you publish the content you create.
Guided Notation Video with Annotations
Use Camtasia or other similar screen capture utility to capture the animated notation and audio coming from your favorite music notation program (Sibelius, Finale, Noteflight, etc.). Add annotations to help students understand more about the notation that is scrolling by. Add additional commentary and images before or after the notation to help students understand the historical context of the music they are reading. Complete this small project on Monday afternoon. Non-music participants are free to adapt this project. See Dr. Estrella for details.
Virtual Instrument
Use the hot spot feature of Camtasia to create clickable elements in your video that trigger sound that occurs elsewhere in the video. You can generate the original audio using GarageBand and design your trigger buttons using any image editing software or the built-in shapes from Camtasia. Plan to complete this project on Tuesday. Keep the scope very limited to avoid overextending yourself. For example, you could create a guitar virtual instrument that only plays three chords E, A, and B7.
Listening Map with Section Navigation and Quiz
Create a listening map to help students understand the formal structure and expressive content in a public domain work of your choice. Generate the audio using GarageBand or a notation program. Create or find royalty-free images that you can use to help illustrate the music. Link to or embed a quiz at the end of your listening map to assess what your students have learned.
DIY Listening Map using Template Code
Use the same content from your listening map assignment to create create a web page presentation for a simple listening map with clickable section buttons. The template code is available in the Web development page of this site.
Final Project of Your Own Choosing
Create a useful multimedia presentation for the work you do. Begin planning for this on day 1 of the course. By Wednesday morning, be sure to have all your media assets prepared. By Thursday morning, you should plan to be nearly complete. Thursday afternoon is show and tell.

Final Project Presentations
The available presentation time will be equally divided among the students. I will raise a single finger during your presentation when you have only 1 minute remaining. Walk us through each content area in your web site and explain how the new knowledge and skills you have acquired this week will make a difference in your teaching practice.
